HEDS UP for Los Ninos HEALTH PROGRAMS

Short Term Medical Missions
Every February for the past three years we have visited Patzun, Guatemala and it's surrounding aldeas or villages providing health care to adults and children who have limited, if any, access to quality health care. This past year we visited two additional remote aldeas, San Ildefonso and Los Apendillos near the city of Escuintla. During this mission we saw over 1300 patients in our medical and dental clinics. These mission trips have been in association with DOCARE International and medical students and faculty from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience.

Dental care is not available to most people and often consists of extraction of the teeth because of decay and infection. On the left three niņos recover from their visit and volunteer dentist Erick Rupprecht from Grand Rapids, Michigan and a student attend to a young patient.

The medical clinics are busy seeing patients of all ages. Medical students learn to care for patients with limited resources in a health care system that is very different from the United States. Physician faculty work closely with each patient providing essential care that is not usually found in developing countries.
